Are you afraid of being too salesy in your Facebook group? It’s one of the biggest fears business owners have—selling without feeling pushy.
The truth? If you’re only nurturing and never making sales content, your audience won’t know how you can help them!
I use an integrated approach where value and selling work together seamlessly. This shift makes it EASY for your audience to say yes without feeling overwhelmed.
Ready to master this balance? Read on and I’ll show you how to create engaging content that actually converts!
I get this question so much: “How much nurturing do I need to do before I start selling? What’s the right balance between value posts and sales posts? How do I keep people from getting annoyed at my sales content posts?”
The answer is two-fold: 1) Show up consistently every day. Let them know you’re here to stay, and you have something valuable they need. 2) Integrate meaningful nurture and offer content to fill your community with ideal clients. You’ll sell to your Facebook group without fear, pressure, or low-ball offers.
Read on, and level up your marketing game to become the leader God created you to be.
In my past, I was afraid of the same things that so many people are now. I was always worried about being too salesy, talking too much about my sales content, and turning people away from wanting to work with me.
I did my best to structure my content following a business coach’s advice. The advice wasn’t bad for the time, but it still wasn’t working for me.
She taught an 80-20 rule where you’re supposed to do 80% value and 20% selling. I interpreted that as posting once every weekday, where four of them were value posts and one was an offer post.
That wasn’t a terrible idea, but I wasn’t seeing the outcomes I wanted.
It’s a matter of math. Don’t worry, it’s pretty simple. We all know that not everybody sees your stuff. And even if lots of people are seeing your stuff, it’s a different set of people that see your stuff every single day. So, if you’re only posting a single offer a week—usually on the same day—a lot of people will never see it, no matter how active they are.
And since marketing can take 10 to 20 exposures before a buying decision, that’s about six months before someone will think seriously about paying to work with you!
I don’t know about you, but I would like a lot less than six months between when first exposure and a sale. And that means that you have to present your sales content more often than once a week.
Not everybody’s ready to buy straight away, and that’s fine. People need to take time to process that information and decide to buy. But if you give them that sales information at a more frequent rate, they’re going to process it at a more frequent rate. Those who buy will buy sooner.
Of course, people still expect value along the way. People who join free groups don’t join them to spend money; they join them to get value for their time. But the people who want your solution will interact with the group more often. With more sales content posts joining the value posts, the people who already know and like you will see more of what you are offering along with the value posts. It’s a mindset shift for you and a much better experience for them.
Even better, when these people interact with your posts by making emojis or comments, Facebook sees the activity and shows them more of your group posts. Now you have yourself a fan.
Your fans won’t always jump right on your sales content. But since they’re there because they like you and your content, they’ll stay. They’ll see interesting offers that will benefit them, and over time (sooner than six months!) more of them will make the jump.
Because honestly, if your sales content is annoying some people, they’re not a great fit for your group… or someone you would want to work with. And that’s OK. Not everyone is.
If your business is on social media, you have to put out content. You have to make sales, you have to make sales content, you have to invite people to come work with you. That is a non-negotiable part of the process. That’s just how this works.
So, stop worrying about how people feel about what you’ve got to share. The right people for you will stay because they care about your content. The people who aren’t right for you will move on. Because if you’re worried about how people are reacting to your content, you’re letting their feelings run your business for you—maybe even running you out of business.
Now that we’ve talked about not being afraid to post in your own group, let’s talk about how you can better sell to the people who belong there.
First, create your content from a Spirit-led place of expertise and purpose. When you do that, you’re serving God and the people who need you.
Second, don’t stick with the outdated, “Value. Value. Value. Sell. Rinse and repeat.” Instead, you nurture by showing up, by being present, by getting to know them, by helping them think about things differently.
All along you’re shifting their perspectives and mindsets. You’re the living example of how your solution works. Write your value posts to showcase who you are and how you help. Use your journey, your story. You’re not simply educating them, but positioning yourself as the solution they need for something important to them.
Since you’re weaving your expertise and solutions into nurturing posts, the sales content post becomes a welcome invitation to greater access to you—whether it’s a newsletter signup, an event, or a coaching program. The post isn’t an intrusion on their time. It’s a valuable opportunity.
This is how engagement, nurturing, and sales can happen in the same piece of content! This confident and holistic approach to selling isn’t complicated. It isn’t pushy and it’s definitely not sleazy. It’s affirming, nurturing, and a blessing to them and you.
