One of the things I do at the beginning of every month is review my analytics for my Facebook group from the previous month. I like to track certain key performance indicators so I know how my business is doing. I noticed that for the past several months, I have consistently had a high Facebook group engagement rate, around 400% every single month. So in this blog, I thought we’d dive into what a Facebook group engagement rate is and the 3 things I’m doing every single month to keep that engagement so high.
Let’s start by going over what your Facebook group engagement rate is and how to calculate it. It’s a really simple calculation that compares the amount of engagement you have – likes, comments, and posts – compared to the number of people that are active in the community.
Your Facebook group analytics will tell you all of these numbers on the engagement page. Just plug them into the formula and you get your engagement rate! If you’re curious to know more about what this means for your community, I encourage you to join my course, Facebook Group Foundations! I’ll walk you through a detailed module on analytics including all the calculations I use, what you should be tracking, and what the numbers tell you about your group.
With this calculation, my Facebook group engagement rate is around 400%. And I’ve identified 3 things I do consistently that help me get that number. So let’s go through what each of those things are.
You need to be in your group every single day. There must be content in your group every single day. You don’t personally need to show up every day if that does not work for you, there are plenty of ways do work around that:
However you choose to do it, make sure there is content every single day. The algorithm needs to know your group is valuable and you have high Facebook group engagement. That will not be achieved by posting twice a week and taking breaks when you feel like it. That’s just the hard truth. Creating content for your Facebook group doesn’t take a lot of time though! It’s why I prefer Facebook groups over other platforms.
So, let’s start by asking a question every single day. You want something that sparks discussion, something that lets people share their thoughts and opinions. Remember, you’re creating a community. You’re there for people to talk to you and to each other. You want to have a conversation and the best way to do that is to ask a question.
I invite new people to my Facebook group every single week. Even though my Facebook group is at a place where it gets recommended to people and members are joining because they searched for it, I still take the time to invite new people every week. You create more Facebook group engagement when you have more people coming into your community and getting involved. Growth and Engagement go hand in hand.
So even though Facebook advertises my group for me, I still take the time to follow a growth plan and invite new people. I outline my strategy inside Facebook Group Foundations if you want to plug and play what I do. It only takes 15 minutes per day to do!
Obviously, there are weeks when I am not able to follow my growth plan because sometimes life does happen! However, I’ve noticed that in the weeks when I don’t take the time to follow my growth plan, I get fewer requests into my group. So I know the plan works to grow my group.
My growth plan only takes 15 minutes, and it shouldn’t be hard to find 15 minutes in your day to follow this plan. Can you get up 15 minutes earlier or use part of your lunch break? If you’re serious about getting better Facebook group engagement, find the time to invest in growing your group and you will see results.
I have some type of event every single month in my Facebook group. Sometimes it’s a live coaching session, other times it’s a training video. It doesn’t need to be a big multi-day event, and it doesn’t even need to be live or in video format. But you need an event so your members can participate and bond over it. You need to have events that bring your community together that go above and beyond your regular content.
Events are exciting and highly engaging, and Facebook loves them. Start trying to plan a monthly event for your Facebook group and you will notice a difference in your Facebook group engagement.
Consistency is key here. It doesn’t matter if you do these things for one month and then skip 3 months. You need to be in this for the long run and be dedicated to showing up every single week. The action steps are not hard and I’ve designed my strategies to be super efficient so they don’t take up all your time.
Of course, there will be fluctuations in your analytics. Life happens to everyone and there may be weeks and months where your members are not as engaged as before. That’s ok! What matters is that you stay the course. You show up consistently. Be the leader and model the behavior you want to see in your community.
